Verified June 2026 · ARK: Survival Ascended · origin: The Island
Spawn a wild Dung Beetle
cheat summon DungBeetle_Character_BP_C
Open the console with ~, paste, hit Enter. All Dung Beetle commands ↓ — tamed, leveled, variants, one-tap copy.

Spawn a tamed Dung Beetle at any level

gmsummon spawns it already tamed. Set the level below — it's the pre-tame level, and ARK adds up to a 50% taming bonus on top, so the final creature lands higher. Change the number, copy, paste.

cheat gmsummon "DungBeetle_Character_BP_C" 150
≈ level 225 once tamed

A gmsummon-tamed Dung Beetle still needs a saddle — it isn't force-tamed. Want it instantly, level aside? Use cheat SummonTamed DungBeetle_Character_BP_C (random level).

ARK Dung Beetle FAQ — Ability, Uses & Spawn Commands

What does the Dung Beetle do in ARK?
The Dung Beetle converts feces in its inventory into Fertilizer and Oil passively while set to Wander. In ARK: Survival Ascended it also auto-collects feces from the ground around it (radius scales with level). One Large Animal Feces produces 3 Fertilizer and 3 Oil; one Massive Animal Feces produces 16 Fertilizer and 7 Oil. Different feces sizes convert concurrently — placing mixed sizes processes all in a single 15-minute cycle rather than queuing. Dung Beetle is a coprophagic (feces-eater). Found in caves and tamed non-violently — approach from behind and feed it feces; the beetle's level is essentially irrelevant to choose since production is flat. Prefers Large Animal Feces for taming, then Medium, Small, Human Feces, then Spoiled Meat. Massive Animal Feces cannot be used for taming.
How do you use the Dung Beetle's ability in ARK?
Set it to Wander inside an enclosed pen. Place feces in its inventory (in ASA it collects from the ground automatically; in ASE you must manually place them). It produces one conversion batch every 15 minutes, running each feces size concurrently. No rider or activation required — pure base utility. It can also be picked up and carried in the player's hands; it will attack from there if in range, and a rider can still ride another creature while holding it. Level Weight exclusively — no other stat affects Fertilizer production. Weight determines how much feces it can hold. The beetle's level is irrelevant for conversion rate; a level 1 and a level 200 produce identical amounts. Pair with a Phiomia feces farm or keep large-creature tames nearby for a steady feces supply. In ASA, keep it in a Wooden Cage; it continues producing even when encumbered. Massive Animal Feces (Titanosaur) requires the beetle to have a Weight stat above 35.
What is the Dung Beetle good for in ARK?
Passive Fertilizer production for crop plots, Oil production (same conversion cycle), sustainable base resource loop without oil nodes.
What is the Dung Beetle spawn command in ARK?
Open the console with ~ and enter cheat summon DungBeetle_Character_BP_C to spawn a wild Dung Beetle in ARK: Survival Ascended. For a tamed one at a level you choose, use cheat gmsummon "DungBeetle_Character_BP_C" 150. On a server, run enablecheats <ServerAdminPassword> first and keep the cheat prefix.
How do I spawn a tamed Dung Beetle at a specific level?
Use cheat gmsummon "DungBeetle_Character_BP_C" <level>. The number is the pre-tame level — ARK adds up to a 50% taming bonus, so a value of 100 ends up around level 150. To hit a target level, divide it by 1.5. A gmsummon creature still needs a saddle to ride.
What's the difference between summon, SummonTamed and gmsummon?
summon drops a wild Dung Beetle at a random level. SummonTamed gives you a tamed one but at a random level you can't set. gmsummon spawns it tamed at the level you specify — the one most people want.
Do ARK spawn commands work in single player and on servers?
Yes. In single player the cheat prefix is optional and no password is needed. On a dedicated or non-dedicated session you must run enablecheats <ServerAdminPassword> once, then prefix each spawn with cheat. Set that admin password without hand-editing files using our free ARK config generators.
Are there other versions of the Dung Beetle?
Yes — Dung Beetle has 1 spawnable variant (Aberrant). Each has its own class name, listed with copy-paste commands in the variants table above.
