Spawn a tamed Dunkleosteus at any level

gmsummon spawns it already tamed. Set the level below — it's the pre-tame level, and ARK adds up to a 50% taming bonus on top, so the final creature lands higher. Change the number, copy, paste.

cheat gmsummon "Dunkle_Character_BP_C" 150
≈ level 225 once tamed

A gmsummon-tamed Dunkleosteus still needs a saddle — it isn't force-tamed. Want it instantly, level aside? Use cheat SummonTamed Dunkle_Character_BP_C (random level).

ARK Dunkleosteus FAQ — Ability, Uses & Spawn Commands

What does the Dunkleosteus do in ARK?
The only tameable aquatic creature that can break stone structures, making it the underwater equivalent of the Giganotosaurus for base raiding. Its armored body gives it 40% damage reduction from projectiles and 60% from melee. It also harvests Metal, Stone, Obsidian, Oil, Crystal, and Black Pearls from underwater nodes, with significant weight reductions on those resources in its inventory (Obsidian: 75%; Metal, Stone, Crystal, Oil, Black Pearls: 50%). Dunkleosteus is a carnivore. Found in deep ocean areas across multiple maps; preferred taming food is Superior Kibble, then Raw Prime Meat. Knockout taming — its entire body takes heavily reduced torpor from arrows, so high-quality crossbows or Longneck Rifles with darts are strongly recommended. A Tusoteuthis can grip it to apply torpor over time as an alternative.
How do you use the Dunkleosteus's ability in ARK?
Bite: left click / RT / R2 (60 damage, 0.67-second cooldown) — this same bite attack harvests underwater resource nodes and destroys stone structures. In ARK: Survival Ascended, a Harvest Only mode is available via the action wheel (R key while mounted) that locks it to harvesting only Metal, Stone, or Flint exclusively, preventing accidental structure hits. Level Weight and Damage for gathering; level Health for a tanking role. Its poor turning radius is a major weakness — kite enemies around it in a circle to avoid being bitten. For taming other creatures underwater, the Dunkleosteus makes an excellent taming tank due to its projectile damage reduction. It is notably easier to obtain than a Mosasaurus while filling a similar cargo role in ocean environments.
What is the Dunkleosteus good for in ARK?
Underwater stone structure raiding, Oil and Stone node harvesting, Metal/Crystal gathering from ocean nodes, Black Pearl harvesting from dead Eurypterids, taming tank for aquatic creatures.
What is the Dunkleosteus spawn command in ARK?
Open the console with ~ and enter cheat summon Dunkle_Character_BP_C to spawn a wild Dunkleosteus in ARK: Survival Ascended. For a tamed one at a level you choose, use cheat gmsummon "Dunkle_Character_BP_C" 150. On a server, run enablecheats <ServerAdminPassword> first and keep the cheat prefix.
How do I spawn a tamed Dunkleosteus at a specific level?
Use cheat gmsummon "Dunkle_Character_BP_C" <level>. The number is the pre-tame level — ARK adds up to a 50% taming bonus, so a value of 100 ends up around level 150. To hit a target level, divide it by 1.5. A gmsummon creature still needs a saddle to ride.
What's the difference between summon, SummonTamed and gmsummon?
summon drops a wild Dunkleosteus at a random level. SummonTamed gives you a tamed one but at a random level you can't set. gmsummon spawns it tamed at the level you specify — the one most people want.
Do ARK spawn commands work in single player and on servers?
Yes. In single player the cheat prefix is optional and no password is needed. On a dedicated or non-dedicated session you must run enablecheats <ServerAdminPassword> once, then prefix each spawn with cheat. Set that admin password without hand-editing files using our free ARK config generators.
Are there other versions of the Dunkleosteus?
Yes — Dunkleosteus has 1 spawnable variant (X-Dunkleosteus). Each has its own class name, listed with copy-paste commands in the variants table above.
