All Ark Survival Ascended Scorched Earth Cave & Artifact Locations

Scorched Earth is ARK's brutal desert map — three artifact caves baked in heat, sandstorms, and Megalosaurus ambushes. Grab the Crag, Gatekeeper, and Destroyer to summon the Manticore. Coordinates cross-checked against multiple current ASA sources, with alternate cave names included so you can find them however the wiki labels them.

Full Scorched Earth Cave Breakdown

Every cave's full details — entrances, hazards, gear, and the mount that actually fits the desert.

Grave of the Tyrants Map & Location

Artifact of the Crag · Also called the Blue Cave
Lat 28.2, Lon 29.0
DifficultyMedium
Best MountThylacoleo, Baryonyx (water sections)
HazardsMegalosaurus, water sections, narrow paths, temperature swings
GearFlak armor, heat protection, ranged weapon, antidotes

The Grave of the Tyrants sits in the northwest of the map, with the entrance around 28.2, 29.0 — it's one of the trickier caves to spot, tucked against a cliff wall when you look southwest. It's a water-rich cave (one of the better base spots on the map) and is sometimes called the Blue Cave for its blue-mushroom-lit corridors.

Head in and follow the trail down on the right side until you hit water, then follow the stream into a corridor marked with blue mushrooms. Keep going until you reach a giant ribcage — your first fork. Either path works, but the left path is faster. Keep left and you'll reach the final chamber with the Artifact of the Crag (and the Scorched Torch skin).

Pro tip: The cave is full of Megalosaurus, but the path is fairly straight — follow the slime dripping from the ceiling as a breadcrumb trail and you'll stay on track. Note: this cave has been known to crash Xbox clients in some builds, so save/sync before a run.

The Old Tunnels Map & Location

Artifact of the Gatekeeper · Central Canyons
Lat 58.6, Lon 47.7
DifficultyHard
Best MountThylacoleo; grappling hooks / parachute
HazardsExtreme heat, swarming creatures, Mega Rabies, Rubble Golem, cliff drops
GearHazard suit / heat gear, antidotes, ranged weapon, grapples or parachute

The Old Tunnels is in the central canyons near the Red Obelisk, entrance around 58.6, 47.7. The fastest way in is to fly above the cave and drop through the cracks just above it; there's also a river entrance around 55.9, 51.3 if you'd rather walk in.

Inside, follow the path that snakes down. From the blue drop, move left, push past the enemies through the tunnel, and you'll reach a cliff edge where the artifact is visible below. Use a parachute or grappling hook to reach it — there's no safe walking route down to it.

Pro tip: This cave's danger is the environment, not just the mobs — extreme heat plus Mega Rabies-carrying creatures and a Rubble Golem. Bring antidotes for the rabies specifically. A grappling hook isn't optional here; the artifact is on a ledge you can't reach on foot.

Ruins of Nosti Map & Location

Artifact of the Destroyer · Deserted village (South)
Entrance 78.4, 76.1 → Artifact ~80.2, 81.8
DifficultyHard
Best MountThylacoleo (vertical ledges)
HazardsExtreme heat, mantises, onycs, rock/rubble golems, insta-kill pits
GearHeat protection, shotgun/flamethrower, grappling hooks, antidotes

The Ruins of Nosti is in the south of the map — the cave begins inside a structure in a deserted village, entrance around 78.4, 76.1. Work your way through to the end and the Artifact of the Destroyer sits around 80.2, 81.8.

Nosti is the cave most likely to perch its artifacts and crates near death pits and impossible-looking cliffs. A Thylacoleo's wall-climbing makes the vertical sections far easier than trying to grapple everything, and a parachute saves you from a few of the nastier drops.

Pro tip: Watch for insta-kill pits near the loot crates — falling in without a grappling hook or parachute just deletes your run. Mantises and onycs swarm here, so a shotgun or flamethrower for crowd control earns its weight.

Summoning the Manticore

All 3 artifacts + Wyvern Talons

The three Scorched Earth artifacts exist for one reason: opening the boss portal to fight the Manticore. You'll need all three — Crag, Gatekeeper, and Destroyer — plus Wyvern Talons as tribute.

Talon requirements (from killing the matching Wyverns):

Exact tribute counts scale with difficulty (Gamma/Beta/Alpha), so check your server's summon requirements at the Obelisk terminal before committing. Artifacts respawn quickly — roughly 3 minutes on servers, ~30 minutes in singleplayer — so a failed boss attempt doesn't mean re-running every cave from scratch.

Pro tip: Farm the Wyvern Talons during your artifact runs, not after — you'll be flying past the Wyvern Trench anyway. Stack a few extra talon sets so you can attempt the Manticore at a higher difficulty without another farming trip.

Common Questions about Scorched Earth Artifacts

How many artifacts are on Scorched Earth in ARK: Survival Ascended?
Scorched Earth has 3 artifacts, all introduced on this map: the Crag (Grave of the Tyrants, ~28.2, 29.0), the Gatekeeper (The Old Tunnels, ~58.6, 47.7), and the Destroyer (Ruins of Nosti, ~78.4, 76.1). All three are required to summon the Manticore boss.
What do you need to summon the Manticore on Scorched Earth?
All three Scorched Earth artifacts — Crag, Gatekeeper, and Destroyer — plus Wyvern Talons (Fire, Poison, and Lightning Talons from killing the matching Wyverns). See the Manticore Summon section for the breakdown. Exact tribute counts scale with Gamma/Beta/Alpha difficulty.
Where is the Artifact of the Crag on Scorched Earth?
The Crag is in the Grave of the Tyrants (also called the Blue Cave) in the northwest, around 28.2, 29.0. It's a water-rich cave full of Megalosaurus — follow the blue mushrooms and the slime trail to the back chamber where the artifact sits.
Why is Scorched Earth so hard to survive?
The caves combine extreme heat (heatstroke can kill faster than enemies), sandstorms, and dangerous spawns like mantises, Megalosaurus, rubble/rock golems, and Mega Rabies-carrying creatures. You need a Hazard Suit or heat gear, water management, and antidotes on top of normal combat prep.
Can you do Scorched Earth artifact runs solo?
Yes, all three are solo-doable with the right prep. A Thylacoleo handles the vertical ledges in all three caves, especially the Ruins of Nosti. Bring heat protection, antidotes, a ranged weapon, and grappling hooks or a parachute for the cliffside artifact grabs. The bigger threat is the environment, not the enemies.
