ARK Sabertooth Salmon FAQ — Ability, Uses & Spawn Commands

What does the Sabertooth Salmon do in ARK?
A schooling fish whose bite drains the target's stamina and oxygen, significantly slowing underwater movement. They attack in groups of 3–4 and can overwhelm unprepared swimmers. Sabertooth Salmon is a carnivore (piscivore). Size varies dramatically — arm-length to Ichthyosaurus-comparable — but size only affects meat quantity, not level. Tamed passively with a Fish Basket; cannot breed.
How do you use the Sabertooth Salmon's ability in ARK?
Purely passive — the stamina-drain bite activates automatically during combat. Not a rideable mount; tamed only via Fish Basket as a pet. Not a combat or utility mount you ride. The practical use is bulk-trapping schools using walls and dinosaur doors to produce a large supply of Raw Prime Fish Meat for taming other creatures. If swarmed wild, stay near the surface and retreat rather than fighting the school.

How do I spawn a tamed Sabertooth Salmon at a specific level?
Use the builder above, or cheat gmsummon "Salmon_Character_BP_C" <level>. The number is the pre-tame level. ARK adds up to a 50% taming bonus, so a value of 100 ends up around level 150. To hit a target level, divide it by 1.5. A gmsummon creature still needs a saddle to ride.
Can I set the Sabertooth Salmon's level and imprint when I spawn it?
Yes. The builder above generates a single SpawnExactDino command that bakes the level and the imprint into one copy-paste line. The saddle comes as a separate cheat gfi command (it can't ride inside the spawn). To set its colours, spawn it first, then use the ARK Dino Color Builder to build the SetTargetDinoColor commands (with a live preview).
What's the difference between summon, SummonTamed and gmsummon?
summon drops a wild Sabertooth Salmon at a random level. SummonTamed gives you a tamed one but at a random level you can't set. gmsummon spawns it tamed at the level you specify, the one most people want.
Do ARK spawn commands work in single player and on servers?
Yes. In single player the cheat prefix is optional and no password is needed. On a dedicated or non-dedicated session you must run enablecheats <ServerAdminPassword> once, then prefix each spawn with cheat. Set that admin password without hand-editing files using our free ARK config generators.
