Subnautica 2 Map — Biomes & Points of Interest

There's no in-game map in Subnautica 2 — just you, a compass, and a lot of dark water. Here's every biome in the current build, what's worth diving for in each, where the Cicada wreck sections are, and how to find your way around without getting eaten.

Biomes & POIs from the in-game world, cross-checked vs GameWith/wikily · Early Access, May 2026 build · the map is still expanding — we re-verify each update
The short version
No in-game map — navigate by compass & beacons. About a dozen biomes, surface Shallows down to the Root Canyon.
Drop a beacon on anything you want to find again — wrecks, your base, resource fields. The deepest explorable area right now is the Root Canyon. The map grows with each Early Access update. Every biome ↓

Every Biome (Early Access)

Roughly ordered surface-first to deepest. Exact depth bands are still shifting in Early Access, so treat the deep-vs-shallow ordering as the reliable part and specific numbers as approximate.

Resource tip: the deeper biomes (Graveyard, Observatory, Power Plant, Root Canyon) hold the late-game materials — Gold, Celestine, Conduit Crystals, Troilite — but they also hold the leviathans. Bring a vehicle and a plan.

The landmarks worth finding

The Cicada (crashed ship) multi-part

Your wreck, broken into sections across several biomes — the Lander Garage (Leadzone), the Canteen (Tufa Towers), and the EVA Prep & Therapy Room (Power Plant). Each section holds different blueprints, tools and data cards, so all of them are worth clearing.

Axum Observatory & Rosetta Stone alien

The big alien structures, out in the Observatory biome. The Axum Observatory is a mid-to-late-game destination (you need progression to get in); the Rosetta Stone is tied to the story's alien-language thread.

Colonist bunkers & camps scattered

Old habitats, labs and camps (Sophie's Retreat, Nahema's Lab, Quaker's Meetinghouse, Tailings Village) dotted across the biomes. They hold beds, lockers and scannable furniture — scanning furniture expands your inventory, so don't skip them.

Hot Cave & Needler Nest hazard

Environmental set-pieces — the Hot Cave Base Camp (Graveyard) and the Needler Nest (Observatory). Useful but dangerous; scout before you commit a base nearby.

🚧

This Is Early Access — the map is still growing

Subnautica 2 launched into Early Access on May 14, 2026. The biomes above are what's in the world now; Unknown Worlds has confirmed more biomes and whole regions across the two-to-three-year Early Access roadmap.

Because it's actively being built, biome names, layouts and depth bands can shift between updates — which is why exact depths here are kept loose and the deepest region (Root Canyon) carries a flag. We re-check this page against the game and the wiki when it updates.

Subnautica 2 Map FAQ

Is there an in-game map in Subnautica 2?
No — same as the earlier games. You navigate with the compass and by dropping beacons on places you want to find again. There's no map screen.
How many biomes are there?
About a dozen in the current Early Access build, from the surface Shallows down to the Root Canyon. More are planned across Early Access.
What's the deepest area?
The Root Canyon is the deepest explorable region in this build — and where some of the rarest materials (and biggest dangers) live.
Where do I find the wrecks?
The Cicada is split into sections across the Leadzone, Tufa Towers and Power Plant biomes. Each holds different blueprints — clear all of them. Drop a beacon when you find one so you can come back.
