New planet, new monsters. Subnautica 2 trades the Reaper and Ghost for an all-new cast of giants. Here's every Leviathan-class creature confirmed so far — where it lives, whether it'll eat you, and how to land the scan.
An enormous cephalopod predator that broadcasts complex sonar and feeds on hard-shelled prey — and it attacks on sight, hitting you with a stunning pulse before it grabs. Found in the deep water east of your lifepod (on the route toward the Alien Ruins) and above the Axum Quarry. To scan it, use your Tadpole as a distraction, slip out, and scan from behind its head.
A prehistoric-looking leviathan with wings, a huge beak and teeth the size of your Tadpole. It runs in a pack — one female and three males — out in the out-of-bounds / world-border areas (still under development). Hug the orange world-border markers to scan without getting swarmed. Scanning one gives you both the Shiver Leviathan and the Shiver Male databank entries.
A giant stationary mollusk (the community nicknamed it "Clamthulu"), sitting southwest of your lifepod near the Cicada Wreck (the Canteen area). It only lashes out if you trigger its pink tendrils — so scan the shell from the outside and don't swim in, or it'll eat you. Because it never moves, it's the easiest leviathan scan in the game.
A completely docile pack creature that drifts through open ocean and can technically spawn almost anywhere above the deeper zones. No threat at all — just swim up and scan it. A Tadpole helps you catch up if it wanders.
The World Tree is a titan-class organism sitting at the very edge of the map. As of the current Early Access build it's effectively inaccessible — you can't scan it, and reaching it means crossing the open Void through hostile Shiver Leviathans.
Treat the details here as provisional: it's clearly part of a future story beat, and exactly what it is (and whether it becomes reachable) will firm up as Unknown Worlds builds out the game. We'll update this when it does.
Subnautica 2 launched into Early Access on May 14, 2026 with around 51 creature archetypes in total — the five leviathans above are the apex tier sitting on top of predators, carnivores, herbivores and passive fauna.
Unknown Worlds has a long history of adding creatures and whole biomes across a game's development, and the Subnautica 2 roadmap confirms more are coming. So this is the confirmed list as of now, not the final one — names and behaviour can shift in Early Access. That's why a couple of entries carry a verify flag, and why we re-check this page against the wiki and patch notes when the game updates.
