Terraria Bosses in Order

Every boss, in the order you actually fight them — how to summon each one, what it gates or unlocks, and which ones are optional side-fights you can skip. Plus a tap-to-check defeated tracker so you always know who's next. Current for Terraria 1.4.5.

How Terraria's Boss Progression Works

Terraria isn't a strict boss ladder like some survival games, but the main line is gated — a handful of bosses are hard checkpoints you can't skip:

Two of these are crossover stars. The Eye of Cthulhu and Moon Lord guest-appear as raid bosses in Palworld's Terraria collab — and we've got those too: Palworld Eye of Cthulhu and Palworld Moon Lord.

Every Boss, In Order — Your Defeated Tracker

Each boss with its stage, how to summon it, and what its death opens up. Optional bosses are flagged. Tap a row once you've beaten one — it dims, strikes out and sinks to the bottom, and saves on your device so you always know what's left.

The three Mechanical Bosses can be fought in any order — you just need all three down before Plantera. The Empress of Light is reachable right after Plantera, but she hits like a post-Golem boss, so most players come back for her later.

📅

Why This Is Current

Terraria isn't a live-service game — there are no seasonal balance patches shuffling the order. This list is built on Desktop 1.4.5, the current version, and the summon items and gates are confirmed against the official wiki.

Trust the live game over any list. Summon items and progression gates are stable, but if a 1.4.5.x point release tweaks a spawn condition, the wiki is the source of truth — and we re-check on every major release.

Terraria Bosses FAQ

What order do you fight Terraria bosses in?
The standard line: Eye of Cthulhu → Eater of Worlds / Brain of Cthulhu → Skeletron → Wall of Flesh (starts Hardmode) → the three Mechanical Bosses → Plantera → Golem → Lunatic Cultist → Moon Lord. King Slime, Queen Bee, Deerclops, Queen Slime, Duke Fishron and Empress of Light are optional side-bosses.
How many bosses are in Terraria?
Roughly 15–19 depending how you count — about 9 in the required line plus 6 optional/event bosses. Counting the three mechs and both evil-biome bosses separately gets you to ~19 individually named bosses.
Which boss starts Hardmode?
The Wall of Flesh — summon it by throwing a Guide Voodoo Doll into the Underworld lava. Beating it is irreversible: it flips the whole world into Hardmode and drops the Pwnhammer for smashing Altars.
Do you have to kill them in order?
The main line is gated, not strictly forced: Skeletron unlocks the Dungeon, Wall of Flesh starts Hardmode, all three mechs gate Plantera, Plantera's Temple Key gates Golem, and Golem gates the Cultist and Moon Lord. The optional bosses you fight whenever you're geared.
What's the final boss?
Moon Lord. Destroy all four Celestial Pillars (from the Lunar Events) or use a Celestial Sigil to summon him. He drops Luminite for endgame armor and tools, and beating him rolls the credits.
