Terraria Console Commands & Cheats

Looking for Terraria console commands? Here's the honest answer: vanilla single-player has none — there's no console to type into. What actually works is Journey Mode, the Cheat Sheet / HERO's Mod cheat menus, and — on a dedicated server — TShock, which has the real /give, /spawnmob and /godmode commands. All of it below, plus an item-ID list.

Vanilla Terraria has no single-player console. Cheat with Journey Mode, the Cheat Sheet / HERO's Mod menus (via tModLoader), or — on a server — TShock commands like /give and /spawnmob.

How "Commands" Actually Work in Terraria

1

Single-player has no console. Unlike Minecraft or ARK, there's no chat box to type /give into. Anyone telling you to "open the console" in a normal world is describing a mod or a server.

2

Built-in cheating is Journey Mode (since 1.4): a creative/research mode with item duplication and a Power Menu of god mode and world sliders — time, difficulty, spawn rate. No typing, no mods.

3

Item-spawn menus are mods. Cheat Sheet and HERO's Mod, via the free tModLoader, add in-game item browsers and god-mode toggles.

4

Real text commands are TShock, the dedicated-server mod. That's where /give, /spawnmob, /godmode, /heal and the admin set live — server-side only, never single-player.

Don't waste time hunting for a single-player console — there isn't one. The vanilla server console only does the basics (kick, ban, time, save, say); the rich commands below come from TShock and only work on a TShock server. Cheat menus (Cheat Sheet / HERO's Mod) need tModLoader installed first. ⚠ A few TShock argument formats shift between versions — confirm exact syntax with /help [command] on your server.

Common Terraria Item IDs

For TShock's /give / /item, or just handy to know. These are the classic low IDs — a couple of upgraded items resolve to high internal IDs (flagged).

Terraria Commands FAQ

Does Terraria have console commands?
Not in single-player — there's no in-game console at all. "Cheating" in a normal world means Journey Mode (built-in) or the Cheat Sheet / HERO's Mod menus via tModLoader. Real typed commands (/give, /spawnmob) only exist on a TShock dedicated server.
How do I spawn items in Terraria?
On a TShock server: /item [name/id] [amount] gives it to you, /give [name/id] [player] [amount] gives it to someone else. In single-player, use Journey Mode's duplication menu or a cheat mod — there's no command to type. Item IDs are listed above.
What's the difference between Journey Mode and cheat mods?
Journey Mode is built in (no mods) but it's a separate character/world type — you can't take its research powers into a Classic/Expert world. Cheat Sheet and HERO's Mod are mods (need tModLoader). TShock is neither — it's server-side.
Are the TShock command arguments exact?
Mostly — but ⚠ a few formats (buffs, time, spawn rates, item bans, groups) shift between TShock versions. We've flagged those above; confirm the exact syntax with /help [command] on your own server before relying on it.
Is /give the same as /item?
No, and it's a common mix-up: /item gives to you (no player argument), /give needs a [player] argument and gives to them.
