Dune: Awakening Builds & Skill Trees

All five classes, every skill and what it actually does, how the 200 skill points and cross-class learning work, and the best-build directions people are running for PvE and PvP. You're not locked to one class — the strong builds mix two or three.

Short version: Five classes — Trooper, Bene Gesserit, Mentat, Swordmaster, Planetologist. You get up to 200 skill points and can learn other classes' skills from their trainers, so a "build" is which ~200 points you spend across all five. Combat builds mix guns, the Voice and blades; Planetologist is the mining/economy tree.

How builds work in Dune: Awakening

You start by choosing one of five classes, but that choice isn't a cage. As you progress you can seek out the trainers for the other classes and learn their skills too, so an endgame character is usually a blend. What constrains you is points: you earn up to 200 Skill Points, and that's not enough to take everything — a build is the decision about which skills are worth your 200.

  • Five classes: Trooper (guns + gravity gadgets), Bene Gesserit (the Voice + blades + survival), Mentat (precision, poison, shield-breaking + team utility), Swordmaster (long-blade duelling), and Planetologist (mining, water and vehicles).
  • Three kinds of skill: each tree mixes active abilities (dashes, grenades, Voice powers), techniques, and passive bonuses (more damage, more health, status resistance).
  • Mix freely: nearly every strong combat build pulls from two or three classes — guns from Trooper, control/sustain from Bene Gesserit, damage from Swordmaster or Mentat.
  • You can respec: skills can be reset and relearned, so treat any build below as a direction you can retune, not a one-way commitment.

Trooper

The ranged-weapons-and-gadgets class. Troopers stack damage across every gun type and lean on suspensor (gravity) tech — dashes, grapples and thrown fields — for mobility and crowd control. If you want to shoot things and reposition constantly, this is the tree.

Recommended builds (community meta)

A few popular directions to start from, built around the synergies above. These are community meta, not official — the game is in active development and the meta moves, so tune them to your gear and playstyle.

Opinion, not gospel: these are directions people are running well right now, grounded in how the skills interact. Numbers and the meta shift between patches — adjust as you unlock more classes.

Hybrid "Go-Fast" DPS PvE all-rounder

The popular late-game all-rounder: melee for packs, guns for bosses, and constant movement. Mixes Trooper ranged + mobility, a touch of Bene Gesserit Voice, and Swordmaster blade damage. Built around a fast melee weapon plus a shotgun and a rifle.

Where the points go: Trooper: Ranged Damage, Scattergun Damage, Battle Hardened, Suspensor Dash, Attractor Field, Energy Capsule · Bene Gesserit: Compel, Voice Training, Blade Damage · Swordmaster: Blade Damage, Knee Charge

Headshot Marksman Precision ranged

A Mentat-led precision build that trades crowd tools for raw single-target damage. Stack headshot multipliers and weak-point creation, run a high-accuracy pistol or rifle, and delete priority targets from range.

Where the points go: Mentat: Marksman, Headshot Damage, Exploit Weakness, Pistol Damage, Rifle Damage, Assassin's Shot

Shield-Breaker / Ranged Bosses & duels

Built to chew through Holtzman shields — the thing that walls most ranged damage. Lean on shield-revealing tools and a lightning/disruptor weapon, with positioning over melee. Strong against shielded bosses and players.

Where the points go: Mentat: Shield Overcharge, Exploit Weakness, Rifle Damage · Trooper: Ranged Damage, Suspensor Dash

PvP Skirmisher PvP

Mobility plus control plus shield-breaking. Get on top of people with dashes and grapples, lock them with the Voice, and break their shield before they break yours. Squishier, but it dictates the fight.

Where the points go: Bene Gesserit: Bindu Sprint, Compel, Stop, Weirding Step · Trooper: Suspensor Dash, Shigawire Claw · Mentat: Shield Overcharge

Industrialist (Gatherer) Economy / base

Not a combat build — a money-printer. Max Planetologist yield, water and fuel efficiency to out-produce the server on spice and materials. Pair with a light combat splash for self-defence. The backbone of any serious base or guild operation.

Where the points go: Planetologist: Cutteray Mining, Vehicle Mining, Sandcrawler Yield, Spice Surveyor, Fuel Efficient Driver, Cartographer

Dune: Awakening builds — FAQ

How many classes are there, and am I locked into one?
Five — Trooper, Bene Gesserit, Mentat, Swordmaster and Planetologist. You pick one to start, but you're not locked in: you can learn skills from the other classes by finding their trainers across Arrakis. Most strong builds deliberately mix two or three classes.
How many skill points can I get?
A character can earn up to 200 Skill Points total. That's not enough to fill every tree, so a build is really a decision about which ~200 points' worth of skills to take across the five classes.
What's the best class in Dune: Awakening?
There isn't a single best one, because you mix them. For combat, most endgame builds blend Trooper guns + mobility, Bene Gesserit Voice + sustain, and Swordmaster or Mentat damage. Planetologist is the pick if you care more about mining, spice and vehicles than fighting. Choose your starter by the playstyle you enjoy — you can branch out later.
Can I respec my skills?
Yes — Dune: Awakening lets you reset and relearn skills rather than rerolling a character, so you can retune a build as you unlock more classes or the meta shifts. Treat these builds as directions, not permanent commitments.
Are these the official best builds?
No — they're popular community directions grounded in how the skills synergise, current to the patch noted above. The game is in active development; numbers and the meta move. Use them as starting points and adjust to your own gear and playstyle.
