Rust Common Ground Update

The July 2026 wipe brought three big things: a rentable Apartment Complex monument, the long-requested Clan system, and Softcore raid windows. Here's what each one does and how to use it.

Compiled from the July 2, 2026 patch notes · Facepunch + Rustafied · field verification in progress
Quick answer
Common Ground added the Apartment Complex (rent a room for scrap), Clans (a Clan Table for roles + clan chat), and Softcore raid windows (raiding only 6–9pm local) + 2× gather.

The Apartment Complex Monument

The headline feature — a new monument where a fresh spawn can rent a room instead of scrambling to build a starter base on the beach.

What it isA rentable-rooms monument (a safe zone) — a real alternative to a first-night starter base
RoomsTiered from the basement up to the penthouse — higher tiers add storage, furnaces and conveniences
Paying rentFeed scrap into the slot next to your door. Stop paying and you're evicted — and your possessions are seized
Also hereA marketplace of player-run rentable shops ⚠ verifying exact costs
The trade-off: a room is instant shelter with storage and a furnace on night one, but it costs scrap on a timer and everything inside is gone the moment you stop paying. Great for solos who hate the beach grind; risky as a long-term stash.

The Clan System

Clans are teams, grown up. Craft a Clan Table at a Tier 1 workbench, place it in your base, and create/manage the clan from there — so this isn't an endgame-only toy, a fresh group can form one on day one.

  • More members than a standard team
  • Roles & permissions for who can do what
  • A separate clan chat channel
  • An announcement / MoTD line for talking to the whole group
If you run a group server, the Clan Table at WB1 means players self-organize early instead of wrangling team invites — worth mentioning in your server rules.

Softcore Changes — Raid Windows

Softcore mode got the change everyone asked for: you can't be raided while you sleep.

Raid windowNormal raiding only during a set window — 6pm–9pm local server time by default
ExceptionPlayer-planted growables aren't protected by the window
Gather rate on nodes, trees, corpse harvesting and ground collectibles
AlsoTool-cupboard protection window on placement; MLRS gated ⚠ verifying specifics
Raid windows kill the "log in and everything's gone" problem, so Softcore is now a genuinely different, more casual ruleset — not just vanilla with training wheels. If you host, it's worth its own server if your crowd is more relaxed.

Rust Common Ground FAQ

What is the Apartment Complex in Rust?
A new monument added in the Common Ground update where fresh spawns can rent a room for scrap instead of building a starter base. Rooms come in tiers from basement to penthouse, with higher tiers offering more storage and furnaces. You feed scrap into the slot by your door to keep paying rent — stop paying and you're evicted and your stuff is seized.
How do Clans work in Rust?
Craft a Clan Table at a Tier 1 workbench and place it in your base to create and manage a clan. Clans are an upgraded version of teams — more members, roles and permissions, a separate clan chat channel, and an announcement/MoTD message.
What are Softcore raid windows in Rust?
In Softcore mode, normal raiding is limited to a set window — 6pm to 9pm local server time by default — so you're not raided while offline overnight. Softcore also runs a 2x gather rate on nodes, trees, corpses and ground collectibles for faster early progression.
When did the Common Ground update release?
Thursday, July 2, 2026, with the monthly forced wipe.
